FREE Online Classified Ads

This is part of a Multi-Part Marketing plan to layout a step-by-step system of building FREE and/or Low Cost traffic to your site. There are many ways to drive traffic to your web site for little or no money. You should use ALL of the parts of this plan together in order to maximize the sales effectiveness of your web site. All of these marketing plans will produce almost instantaneous results, but should be refined over a period of time for maximum profits.

Free Classified Ads have been around for a long time.  If done correctly, you will be able to see a good profit from the time you invest.  However, if you don't do this in a "time  effective" way as outlined below, you could end up spending more time than it's worth.

Most important: these ads are a great way to test your headlines and refine your ads for maximum effectiveness before spending money on a paid ad in an E-zine or somewhere else.

In this section you will learn:

Step 1: Creating your Ad
Step 2: Setting up your FREE online Ads
Step 3: Tracking your Ad's response
Step 4: Keeping your Ad at the TOP of the list
Step 5: Email AutoResponder for your Ad
Step 6: Multiply Yourself
(If you made 10 sales last week,
you'll make 100 sales next week.)

Step 1: Creating your Ad

When creating an ad, you will need to first create a good "Headline". This Headline or Title is what will catch the reader's eye and make them click on your ad to read more. It is the MOST important part of your ad, if the title doesn't grab their attention, you will get poor results. This headline should capture their attention so that they will read the body of the ad.

You should experiment with different headlines to see what works best. Sometimes, just capitalizing one single word can double your click through results from the ad. Also, rephrasing the headline can drastically improve the results. Usually, an offer of anything for FREE will grab their attention. It's always a good idea to find something free to give away in order to lure the prospective customer to your web site.

The body of the ad should peak their interest and get them to click on the link. Offering a Free item related to your web site's product is an excellent way to do this, such as coupons, ebooks, etc.

Finally, a "call to action", such as a "time dated" offer or sale price will help, such as "Special Sale price expires in 2 days, Click Here for more info".

Step 2: Setting up your FREE online Ads

Let's get down to business. This should be your main objective for this upcoming weekend, because a lot of people surf on Mondays and Tuesdays and you want to be ready.

Important Tip: Don't get distracted! As you go through the process of getting your marketing system in place, there will be plenty of click-tempting offers - resist the urge. Stay focused. When you click on some banner or link and then on to another ...the next thing you know 2 hours has blown by and you haven't even gotten anything done. You know what I mean! Forget those, focus on what you have to do!

Here is a list of sites where you can place Free Ads:

http://www.homepagenow.com/classifieds
http://www.abutton.com
http://www.websitings.com
http://www.hyt.com

Do this ASAP:  Place at least 10 (yes 10) free classified ads under different key terms like business opportunities, music, CD, casinos, free stuff, etc, (anything remotely related to your web site). You should always have ads running under as many categories as you can. Do this at each of the free classified sites listed above.

Also, "home business", "home based business", "home internet business" are VERY highly searched key words you should always have ads running under. Finding the right categories to put your ads under will be the key to getting good response. As a general rule of thumb, if in doubt about a category - try it and see what happens. You have absolutely nothing to loose and everything to gain if it produces traffic to your site.

Don't forget to enter the web site URL for your site. This should be the URL of whichever site you are promoting using the web page for tracking that ad (Ad ID) as in Part 3.

Step 3: Tracking your Ad's response

This is VERY important!!! You NEED to track how good an ad works as you experiment with different wording of the ad. To do this, setup multiple copies of your home page or whatever page you want your visitors to see. For instance, name them ad1.htm, ad2.htm, etc.  When you enter the URL into the classified ad site, list it as YourDomain.com/ad1.htm for the first one and YourDomain.com/ad2.htm for the second one, etc.  These are called "back doors" to your web site.

The reason for this is to easily track the hits that you are getting from ads with different wordings and from different classified sites and categories. After a period of time, you will see what works best. These "best performing" ads should be the Ads that you run in the future.

To track your ad results, just go into your Monster Control Panel (Unix accounts) or WebTrends (NT accounts) and look at the web site statistics, then view the results for each web page that you used in your classified ads to see which ones are producing the best results.

For ads that are not getting many clicks, experiment with them to find a winning combination starting with changing the headline. This is the only thing they see at first, so if your headline is not getting their attention, they never see the rest of your ad. So change the headline, wait a week to see what happens, change it again, etc.  After you get maximum results from the headline changes, then tweek the text in the body of the ad for best results.

Step 4: Keeping your Ad at the TOP of the list

Most classified ad sites will put new listings at the top of the list.  If you modify you listing and save it, it will (at most ad sites) go back to the top as a new listing. Simply go through your ads every week and edit something, such as change "FREE" to "free".  This will keep your listing near the top. Congratulations! Now you have your best performing Ads in Place at the TOP of the lists.

Step 5: Email AutoResponder for your Ad
(if you did not put an email address
in your ad, skip to the next step)

If you listed an email address for "more info" in your ad, you should setup an email AutoResponder (free with all 6Star.net web hosting accounts). An AutoResponder is an email address that automatically answers any email that is sent to it. It sends an automatic response to every email that comes in.

You never have to see the incoming mail. No matter where you are, your AutoResponder will be firing off messages instantly to your prospects. Plus, if you have a Platinum Hosting account, you can "harvest" these email addresses into an automated subscribable mailing list so that you can send each person several messages over time to advertise other new products that you have which will substantially improve your web site's marketing results.

Best of all, you can do it FREE... and once you set up an AutoResponder you can replace your current email address in your ads with your AutoResponder email address and now your follow-up marketing is on auto-pilot.

For more information on setting up your AutoResponder, please refer to the Online Manual for step by step instructions.

You should check out our section on AutoResponder Magic for more detailed info about how to use AutoResponders to drastically increase the sales that your web site gets. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED reading.  If used properly, an AutoResponder can double the sales from the click-thru results that your web site gets.

Step 6: Multiply Yourself

I don't want to knock you out of your chair, but here are a few things that you need to do to really rock! Follow these steps and if you made 10 sales last week, you'll make 100 next week. NO JOKE.

Yahoo will allow you to run 10 ads. But, you can run 100 or more if you know how....and yes, 100 ads work 10 times better than 10 do. Here's how you do it. You need to get ten (or as many as you can handle) "redirect url's". What is that?

That is a new url that looks like a different address, but actually goes straight to your web page. You can get these free as well, I'll tell you how.

Get your new free url's at the link below - go ahead and get 10 while you are at it, you'll need them. Here's where you can get your redirect url's: http://www.cjb.net

After you have your 10 new URL's, you also need to setup 10 new email address (for this we use autorespnders). For more information on setting up your AutoResponders, please refer to the Online Manual for step by step instructions.

Why do you need 10 new email (autoresponder) addresses? Because with each new URL and each new email address, you can create a new account at Yahoo. With a new account at Yahoo, you can place 10 more ads. With 10 new URL's and 10 new email address, you can place 100 new ads.

BUT WAIT! Before you say that is too much work, I am going to let you in on a little secret that makes it all very much worth while.

HERE IT IS: Each ad at Yahoo is good for 30 days UNLESS you "edit" the ad - then it is treated as a new ad and is good for another 30 days. MOST IMPORTANTLY it also moves back up to the TOP of the list. This is VERY important. To "edit" the ad, all you have to do is change one little word.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU is that once you have this system in place, you can "edit" each ad AT LEAST every 3 or 4 days and always be near the top...and once you have these ads in place, if you "edit" them regularly you will never have to go through the process of setting them up again.

Set yourself on a schedule like this: Place three sets of 10 ads with three of your new urls and email addresses today and plan to edit them in four days. Tomorrow, place three sets of ten ads with three other new urls and plan to edit them in four days. The next day, place three more sets of ads with three more urls and plant to edit them in four days. Now you have 90 ads in Yahoo! You will make 9 times the sales, just keep your ads "edited" and at the top. Also, place ads in every imaginable category that even remotely applies to your site. The more categories you are in, the more hits you will get.

TRACK RESULTS!!! Very Important!!!

You click on "My Ads" to view the ads you are running, Yahoo also provides stats on how many clicks each ad has received. This is very important information. Go through all of your ads and note the ones that got the most clicks. Then, duplicate those ads as many times as possible. Those ads got clicks for a reason - maybe it was the "headline", maybe it was the category you had it under, maybe it was the wording, etc. Whatever it was, something worked, so duplicate it many times over!

Daily Strategy: Yahoo encourages you to edit, or submit ads daily. You can change one word in your ad and it will be published the next day as if it was new. When you change your ad, your ad will run as a new ad the next day for a maximum of 30 days. Each file in Yahoo will have 10 ads. Resubmit all 10 ads every other day (or on a set schedule as above) by clicking the edit button on Yahoo classifieds. You can edit your ads by changing one word in your ad. It takes 5 minutes edit time for 10 ads. Some people I know have 200 ads running and make about 75 to 100 sales per week, not to mention the other revenues they derive from his traffic (Tell them this isn't worth the effort!)

Here is where you go to create new "identities" in Yahoo. REMEMBER, do not give any personal information in the sign up form because they will put it on the Internet. Your personal information is not required: http://mail.yahoo.com

NOTE!!!: After you create new identities, you have to click "sign out" and then "sign completely out" and then "Back to Yahoo Email" to log into one of your other accounts.

OK, so do you have the plan down? Take the next few days to build your ad bank in Yahoo. Afterwards, editing and updating will be a breeze.

P.S. Don't get distracted!
