Downloads You'll REALLY Need

The following links are to required software for building a web site. If you wish, you may use other brands of software which perform the same functions. It is not our intention to list every type of software here. We are just going to list the most popular one in each category which you can download for free in order to get the job done.

Cute FTP (1.6 mb) and WS FTP-32 (2.4 mb) are 30 day trial versions of programs which will allow you to upload and download files from your web site. If you automatically publish your web site using FrontPage, you should NEVER use these or any other programs to upload your files. FrontPage will NOT publish your web site correctly after you use another program to upload your files. WS FTP-16 should only be used for obsolete Windows 3.1 computers.

Cool Page 2.7 (2.9 mb) will create nice Web Pages with cool effects. It has a great "point and click" user interface for the beginner web site designer. This trial version has no time limit. If you don't know where to start, this program would be the best place to start. Check it out.

Cool 3D (11.3 mb) will create nice 3D effects. We used it to create our logos on this web site. This is a trial version which will expire in 15 days. If you are planning to create some great graphics, this is a "must have" tool. Check it out.

G2_Kit (4.9 mb) is a free program which will create RealPlayer formatted files for full streaming video and/or audio on your web site. This will compile them to the G2 format which is not the latest version (it's the version previous to the current version 8.0), but will probably be compatible with everyone's computer system. If you plan to use the latest version to compile your video, then you should supply a link for your visitors to download the version 8 RealPlayer below.

RealPlayer 8.0 (4.9 mb) RealPlayer version 8.0 Basic (the free version) without any bells and whistles like the Jukebox. Supply this for your visitors if you use the latest version of the RealPlayer compiler to create your videos. Otherwise, you should compile your videos with the G2 Kit above for maximum compatibility.

Paint Shop Pro 7.02 (28.4 mb) is not the only paint program on the market, however, this is the one we use. It includes an awesome animation creation program too. Do NOT download the animation program separately, it is included as part of the paint program. This is the 30 day trial version

WinZip 8.0 (1.2 mb) is an absolute requirement on any workstation. It will allow you to extract files from any archive format and of course create archived files. A must have piece of software. This is the trial version which never really expires.
